William Woods mens/womens tennis competes at ITA Cup

Vaclav Schneider of the William Woods University men’s tennis team, and the duo of Hanna Lindeboom and Marta Calvo Larraz of the William Woods University Women’s tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup this weekend closing their fall season.

In the tournament, there was a minimum of three matches guaranteed, regardless of the result.

In order to qualify for the ITA Cup, Schneider won the singles draw of the ITA Central-East Regional Championship. While the Lindeboom and Calvo duo won the doubles draw of the ITA Central-East Regional Championship as well.

Schneider fell to Yassir Kilani from Kaiser University in the round of 16, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the first round of the consolation draw, Schneider defeated Jan Silhavy and fell short to Martin Carrizo from Kaiser University, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.

In the round of 16 of the main draw, Lindeboom and Calvo Larraz dropped a Heartbreaker to the No. 3 seed Cassidy Mataya and Lyza Velikorodna from Georgia Gwinett, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6. In the first round of the consolation draw, the Owls duo dropped another three-setter 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 to Sofia Ragona and Yue Yu from Savannah College of Art & Design. In their final match of the consolation draw, Lindeboom and Calvo Larraz fell short to Micaela Ponce and Ariana Saiqueiro-Estela from Loyola University of New Orleans, 7-6 (2), 4-6, 10-7.

The Owls return to action in the spring against NCAA Division II, Washburn on Jan. 28 in Topeka, Kansas.
