Saint Lucia becomes first island in OECS to win Caribbean table tennis

Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia becomes the first island in the OECS to win a Caribbean table tennis title of any kind. Saint Lucia defeated Guyana A team 3-2.

Leshon Francis played unbeaten, winning his two matches; however Manie Eleuthere having lost one match was put in the hot seat to win the deciding match. Manie then showed fight under pressure as he played every point with passion and National pride and won the deciding match 3-0.

Team Table Tennis Saint Lucia traveled this week to Guyana to participate in the Caribbean Under-13 and Under-11 Table Tennis Championships.

Team Saint Lucia comprises, Head Coach, Chris Wells, and 4 Athletes – Shantal Charles, Leshon Francis, Manie Eleuthere, and Vernon Salvator. Other participating teams include: Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad.

The 2022 Caribbean Mini Pre Cadet Table Tennis Championships serves off today with the team matches started at 10am.

The opening ceremony was held at 3pm with Charles Ramson jr. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport – Guyana and gave the feature address.

Countries such as Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia are fielding teams.

The tournament was started on October 14, 2022 and will be concluded on October 19, 2022, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall Homestretch Avenue G/town Guyana.

With the singles aspect of the tournament completed yesterday. The players of Guyana gave good results with Chelsea Edghill, OLY advancing to the quarterfinals, natalie_cummings26Shemar Brittongoing to the round of 16s.

Attention was also turned to the team event with both men and women participating today. The men were Christopher Franklin, Shemar Britton and Elishaba Johnson. Women are Chelsea Edghill, Priscilla Greaves and Natalie Cummings.
