Wisconsin (0-4-0) is off to a rough start coming off a sixth-place finish in the Big Ten last season. On Friday, the Badgers head to Minnesota-Duluth (2-2-0), which was swept at Minnesota State last week and opens a four-game homestand. Wisconsin finished just 10-24-3 last season after losing its top four scorers from an NCAA tournament team in 2021. The Bulldogs have made seven straight trips to the NCAA, including Frozen Four Appearances in 2017-19 and 2021 and back-to- back national championships in 2018-19 after winning their first in 2011. Last season, UMD was 22-16-5 and finished fifth in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference before roaring through the conference tournament to earn an NCAA bid.

The Badgers dropped 5-1 and 2-1 decisions at home to St. Cloud State on Oct. 14-15. Corson Ceulemans tied the game for Wisconsin at 8:34 of the third period, but a power-play goal won it for the Huskies with 6:02 to go. The Badgers have had trouble offensively with just six goals in four games. Mathieu De St. Pahl has a goal and two assists to lead the team.
The Bulldogs lost 6-0 and 2-1 at Minnesota State, trailing 2-0 before Luke Loheit found the net on the power play early in the third period. Saturday’s game was a tight one, with each team getting just 15 shots. Ben Steeves has two goals for UMD while Owen Gallatin has a goal and two assists.
Wisconsin leads the all-time series 93-61-15 and has won the last four games. The teams last met in Madison in October 2019 and this is the Badgers’ first visit to Duluth since October 2012.
