MSOC Preview: Billikens, Flyers Clash in A-10 Semifinals

Top-seeded and 20th-ranked Saint Louis hosts six seed Dayton in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship on Wednesday night at 7 pm at Hermann Stadium. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Dan Bettlach and Bill McDermott on the call.

The Billikens (11-4-1, 6-1-1 A-10) are riding a six-game winning streak. They knocked off eighth-seeded UMass last weekend to advance to the semifinal round. Dayton (10-2-4, 3-2-3 A-10) defeated No. 3-seed VCU 1-0 in Richmond to advance to play Saint Louis.

The other semifinal in the A-10 pit No. 4 Loyola-Chicago at No. 2 Duquesne. That game will be played Wednesday night at 6 pm (CT). The winners of the two semifinals will meet for the A-10 Championship final at the site of the best remaining seed on Sunday.

Here are five additional facts in advance of Wednesday’s match vs. Dayton.

1 // Six Billikens, including three major award winners, earned A-10 All-Conference honors (read more).

2 // John Klein, the A-10 co-Offensive Player of the Year, leads the Billikens in scoring with 19 points (7G, 5A). He is 16th in school history with 85 career points (29G, 27A). His 27 assists are tied for ninth all-time at SLU.

3 // Alberto Suarez earned his second-straight conference Defensive Player of the Year Award. They earned the nod last year in the ASUN playing with Central Arkansas before winning the award from the A-10 this season.

4 // This will be the second meeting between the Billikens and Flyers this season. SLU defeated Dayton 3-1 on Oct. 22 at Baujan Field (read more).

5 // Saint Louis leads the all-time series over the Flyers 20-7-3. The Billikens have won three in a row in the series and four out of the last five.
