FSC falls to Union (NY) College in a non-conference game

FARMINGDALE, NY | The Farmingdale State men’s basketball team fell to Union (NY) College 74-71 in a non-conference game tonight in Farmingdale. NY FSC’s winning streak was snapped as they are now 7-2 overall.

A close first half tied the game at 26-26 with 5:55 left before a 7-1 run, including five points by Chris Lovisolo, gave the Dutchmen (1-8) a 33-27 advantage.

FSC junior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, NY) responded with six unanswered points on two free throws and a pair of fast break layups to tie the game at 33-33.

The Rams were down 37-35 in the final minute before senior guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, NY) hit a 3-pointer in the corner to go into the break 38-37.

Santos was 5-7 from the floor for 14 points, while senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, NY) recorded nine first-half points.

Both teams continued to trade baskets in the second half, leading to a 60-60 tie after six minutes of play.

Santos and Powell would foul on back-to-back Farmingdale State possessions and hit each free throw to take a 64-60 advantage with 5:37 left.

After Union, Brian Noone scored six straight points to go up by two, 66-64, with four minutes left.

The Dutch maintained a one-point lead at 70-69 until the final minute and extended their lead to three on an Edward Baptiste layup.

After each team turned the ball over on their next possession, Powell was fouled with 10 seconds to play and hit both at the line to cut the deficit to one at 72-71.

Farmingdale State fouled out with seven seconds to play and Union missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Lovisolo crashed the board before knocking down both foul shots to go ahead, 74-71.

The Rams attempted a full-court shot at the buzzer that missed as the Dutchmen took the win 74-71.

Powell recorded a game-high 20 points and four rebounds, while Santos had 18 points, four assists and two steals. Senior guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, NY) had 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists and junior forward Jovayne Walters (Cambria Heights, NY) added eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two assists off the bench.

The Rams next travel to non-conference opponent New Jersey City University on Saturday, December 17th for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
