Team India were humbled 2-1 by a surging Bangladesh team in the three-match ODI series, which the visitors managed to finish on a high thanks to Ishan Kishans record double century. The Indian cricket team is now looking to switch gears to prepare for red-ball cricket when the first Test against Bangladesh begins in Chattogram on Wednesday (December 14). India resume at 278/6 on Day 2 of the first Test on Thursday (December 15).

The Indian side will be led by KL Rahul, with regular skipper Rohit Sharma ruled out following a thumb transplant in the second ODI last week against Bangladesh. Shubman Gill is expected to step up for Rohits at the top of the order alongside alternate skipper Rahul.

On the other hand, Bangladesh will be led by veteran all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, with Tamim Iqbal missing both the ODI and Test series due to injury. The home team will be tasked with cutting off the world’s No. 2 Test team against India as they eye their first Test match win over them.

India have promised to play aggressive cricket, just like Englands Bazball model which has seen them win the Test series against Babar Azams Pakistan. India need to win at least 5 of the next 6 Tests, which include the next two Test matches against Bangladesh, to secure a place in next year’s World Cup finals.

The Indian team has been decimated by injuries to the likes of Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja, apart from skipper Rohit. It will be interesting to see if Jaydev Unadkat returns to Test cricket after a gap of 12 years. Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav are expected to carry the bowling burden while Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav combine in the spin bowling department.
