Come and dress up as your favorite tennis player

In January, the Copacabana Social Tennis group organizes a special event where players are invited to dress up as their favorite tennis player.

Group members enjoyed a Christmas event in early December organized by a group of local tennis enthusiasts led by local GP Risto Cvetkovic from Copacabana Medical Centre.

“Tennis is such a beautiful sport that is played for all ages,” Cvetkovic said.

It engages the whole body and mind and is therefore excellent for health and relaxation.

It also has this social element and promotes court etiquette and fair play that both children and adults can benefit from.

The tennis courts are located a short walk from Copacabana Beach, which has two artificial grass courts, a cozy clubhouse with barbecue facilities, sheltered seating, table tennis and a children’s playground in the adjacent park surrounded by trees.

The Copacabana Social Tennis group is self-financed and meets once a month on Sundays.

It is free (with gold funding donations) and open to all, both current and potential new tennis club members.

There will be lots of fun, food and drink, tennis balls and even rackets.

The only requirement is good weather and eager and interested players to participate and bring their friends and family.

In between the monthly events, members of the social group organize ad hoc tennis practices and matches.

In the special Christmas party event, the Wooden Racquet competition was revived.

The Australian Open Special Event will take place on Sunday, January 22.

Players are invited to braid their hair like Serena Williams, don a plaid headband like Pat Cash or dress up as heavy John Newcombe to take part in the Dress Up Your Favorite Tennis Player competition.
