Lisa McCaffrey’s interview relives the 49ers’ defeat of the TNF Seahawks

Amazon’s Thursday Night Football options include a Manningcast-style alternate feed with Hannah Storm and Andrea Kremer, bringing bold names to in-game interviews.

It’s hard for any of those programs to top Thursday’s interview with Lisa McCaffrey, former Stanford football player and mother of 49ers star Christian. He ranked his son, ripped 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s alleged babysitter and dropped the F-bomb on live TV (again). It was easily the most dynamic part of the Seahawks’ ongoing blowout of the 49ers.

McCaffrey was brought in late in the first half, just as the Niners started their offense. Although the broadcast went down when she let out a huge nerve-releasing exhale, she couldn’t have sounded more prepared for the interview as she opened with a joke at her sons’ expense.

A graphic had just flashed on the screen, showcasing McCaffrey’s statistical accomplishments this season, prompting him to don a lab coat in front of the chalkboards. This prompted Lisa to say, You know he’s a college dropout, right? (McCaffrey and her husband, former Denver Broncos running back Ed, met at Stanford, where Christian attended for just three years.)

Next was the infamous anecdote of Shanahan allegedly grooming Christian as a teenager in the 1990s when Kyle’s father, Mike, was coaching Ed with the Broncos. Lisa McCaffrey confirmed Kyle Shanahan’s long-standing position that it was indeed Kyle’s sister who babysat the future 49er.

“Thank God for Kyle’s sister because she’s a liability,” McCaffrey said before pausing to see if Christian had enough yards for a first down. He is responsible, so Christian is still alive to play the game because of him, not Kyle. If it had just been Kyle, there would have been danger.

The offense ended in a stinger, and as the Niners defended, Kremer asked Lisa how, according to Ed, she rates her kids each week. When asked, he got Dylan McCaffrey first, Max last, and Luke and Christian second. (Dylan and Max played and coached for Ed at the University of Northern Colorado before Ed was fired last month.)

That changed on the Niners’ next drive when Christian threw a short touchdown.

As Lisa’s little party began, she told the broadcast duo that I want to say a bad word in a good way.

Kremer gave McCaffrey the green light, which led to Lisa saying yes, much to Storm’s shock.

This seems to be Lisa McCaffrey’s usual party line, as she was caught yelling the same phrase when Christian scored against the Chargers, who shut down a game earlier this season.

Watching Christian McCaffrey suit up for the Niners this season has been entertaining as hell for Niners fans and neutrals alike. The only thing that makes it better is that his mother tells it.
