Federer, Nadal and Serena among the nominees for AIPS Sportsperson of the Year

[ad_1]

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams are among the nominees for the best athlete of the year, according to the list of nominees published by the International Sports Press Association on Thursday.

Nadal won the Australian Open and the French Open, bringing his Grand Slam haul to 22 this year. He also played 20-time Major winner Federer in the Swiss maestros’ last ever professional tennis match at the Laver Cup in London.

23-time Major winner Serena returned to the tour this year at Wimbledon. She played what was probably the last tennis match of her career when she lost in the third round to Australian Ajla Tomljanovic at the US Open.

Surprisingly, the number one players in men’s and women’s tennis Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz are missing from the list.

In addition to the Best Male and Best Female Athlete awards, the other categories are Best Team and Best Press Room.

AIPS members worldwide can vote for these awards, and the deadline is December 29. Members can place up to three choices in each category (first, second and third preference in order of importance).
