The tennis player was banned for three years after conceding a match-fixing match

On Thursday, tennis player Barbara Gatica Avils was banned for three years for match fixing.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency said Gatica Avils was paid to intentionally lose a match in 2016, which she admitted to the agency.

“The case was resolved by the independent anti-corruption hearing officer, Raj Parker, and the sanction means that Gatica Avils is banned from playing or participating in tennis events sanctioned by tennis governing bodies for three years from December 9, 2022 until December 8, 2025,” the agency said in a statement.

The 26-year-old was also fined $5,000 for the repair.

Gatica Avils was also suspended in May for a doping violation. By Tennis Nowhe tested positive for Boldenone, a substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list.

Gatica Avils has earned $26,598 in prize money this season, but has not competed since late May, just before her doping ban.
