Is our cricket team’s problem an embarrassment of riches?

Ishan Kishan reaches an electrifying two hundred and the questions become even more urgent. Why hasn’t he been given a chance when the team has been doing so poorly? Why do we stick with someone like Rishabh Pant who is clearly out of form in the shorter formats of the game when so many talented cricketers are wasted on the sidelines? Sanju Samson is a classic example, and he is by no means alone. What about Prithvi Shaw? And why Sarfaraz Khan doesn’t get a chance at Test level despite his amazing domestic performances cricket?
The paradox of Indian cricket is that it has perhaps the most talent against any team in the world across all formats. Indian Premier League (IPL) has certainly opened the doors of opportunity to many players who would otherwise have labored in obscurity. And yet, for all that talent, the team itself has barely distinguished itself of late, looking inexcusably underpowered against even relatively weak opposition.
