Lionel Messi’s Instagram post celebrating Argentina’s World Cup win is now officially the most liked social media post of all time.
The Argentine superstar surpassed the record set by Filipino-American singer and social media personality Bella Poarch in 2020 with a TikTok video.
After Argentina’s thrilling penalty shootout win over France, Paris Saint-Germain star Messi took to Instagram publish 10 pictures of Qatar’s celebrations.

Messi has long been regarded as one of football’s greatest players of all time, and after his Instagram post, many people were delighted to see the Argentine superstar finally add the World Cup to his illustrious list of achievements.
Since its upload, Messi’s message has garnered a whopping 64.5 million likes, and the forward’s number of followers has grown rapidly on social media as well – now 404 million.
Messi accompanied the post with a text that read: ‘WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!! I dreamed so many times, I wanted it so much that I still haven’t fallen, I can’t believe it…. ..

Poarch no longer has the most liked post on any social media platform with him TikTok video from August 2020.
The video featured her lip-syncing to British rapper Millie B’s M to the B.
Sportsmail reported earlier today that Messi’s picture had become the most liked Instagram photo of all time – overtaking the ‘egg’ which received 56.1 million likes.
Since the story appeared on Tuesday morning, Messi’s photo has received an additional eight million likes and two million additional followers.
The numbers keep growing, it may be hard for any social media post to match the data set by Messi.
His post also surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s post last month – a pre-World Cup Louis Vuitton ad in which the Portuguese star and Messi were seen playing chess, which had garnered 41.9 million likes.
However, Ronaldo is still the most followed person on Instagram with 519 million.
Last month, he became the first person to reach 500 million followers on social media.
The Portuguese star leads the way in followers, with Messi well behind in second – they are the only athletes in the top ten.
The top 10 is made up of Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Dwayne Johnson, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Khloe Kardashian and Justin Bieber.
Messi had a huge impact in the final in Qatar, scoring twice, while also converting his penalty in the penalty shootout.
The PSG forward and his teammates flew from Qatar back to Argentina on Monday, where they will celebrate their World Cup win with thousands of jubilant fans in Buenos Aires.
