No. 17 Football rankings on 14 Academic All-Big 12 teams

AUSTIN, Texas 14 Texas football student-athletes were named to the fall 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Teams, the league office announced Tuesday.

Among the Longhorns’ 12 first-team honorees was the fifth-year senior linebacker Carlee Allen (business analytics), a fifth-year senior defender Cameron Brooks (postgraduate studies), as a second student onwards Trinity Byars (Health Promotion and Behavioral Science), Second Year Defender EmJ Cox (undeclared), fifth-year senior goalkeeper Madison Hogue (postgraduate studies), postgraduate student goalkeeper Savannah Madden (strategic communication), sophomore midfielder Ashlyn Miller (human dimensions of organizations), sophomore midfielder I read the message (physical culture and sports), senior striker Sydney Nobles (exercise science), a fifth-year senior midfielder Emma Regan (marketing), sophomore midfielder Jilly Shimkin (American studies) and as a second student onwards Holly Ward (communication and leadership). Senior striker Teni Akindoju (applied business science) and junior defense Lauren Lapomarda (applied business science) represented Texas on the second team.

Allen, Brooks, Madden and Regan all got their fourth straight selection, Nobles got his third straight nod and Akindoju and Lapomarda made two straight selections.

The 2022 fall Academic All-Big 12 Conference teams, named by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, featured 642 honorees, with 77 representing a 4.0 GPA. The first team consisted of 532 selections, while 110 made up the second team. Members of the first team consisted of those with a GPA of 3.20 or better, while the second team had a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19.

To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, either cumulative or the previous two semesters, and must participate in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Also, senior student-athletes who have participated for at least two years and meet all criteria except participation percentage.
