Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) and the Begumpet police on Saturday arrested nine persons suspected to be involved in international drug crime.

The police seized 3.1 kg of ephedrine, 23 SIM cards, 12 fraudulently obtained Aadhaar cards and six mobile phones from them.

Acting on information that two Chennai-based persons Khadar Mohideen and Ibrahim Shah were supplying contraband to Australia and New Zealand through courier services, the team laid a trap and nabbed them in Begumpet.

Khadar and Ibrahim used Aadhaar card details obtained under pseudonyms with courier companies to send drug parcels abroad. Courier companies were hand in glove and benefited financially.

Hyderabad route was used by drug traffickers to send drug consignments abroad with a few courier companies helping them. To avoid detection during transit, they packed the consignment in bangle holders, photo frames, sarees and other clothes, said DCP HNEW, Gummi Chakravarthy.

The police also arrested the staff of several courier companies in connection with the case.
