Sweet dreams!

The all-volunteer Ladies Leukemia League organized the Fte de Nol, with an estimated attendance of nearly 800 and the Hilton Riversides Grand Ballroom as the venue. Christmas themed tables were centered with candy cane trees topped with red and white striped ribbons to capture this spirit. For lunch, the participants enjoyed a tasty arugula salad, braised beef short ribs and spicy cheesecake.

Notables were numerous and counted as LLL presidents Anita Hymel (with spouse Ronnie); event chair Lorraine Cucchiara and Vice President Lisa Baynham (with Pat); Mistress of Ceremonies Camille Whitworth; Janet Patterson for invitation; Carolyn Escher and Rosalie Edwards; Eugene Williams, CEO of fashion show host Dillards; Mike Jones for his years of dedication to LLL; entertainer Marshall Harris; and grant recipients, all doctoral degrees, Matthew Burrow, Hua LuMD, Zhen LinMD and Xiao NiMD Fte, a fundraiser for leukemia research grants, has raised more than $4.3 million over the years.

Highlights included the announcement of the Light the Tree of Hope donors; awards parade; and special raffle winners such as Jennie Bryant (Aucoin Hart Ring), Tammy Jacob (Brahmin’s bag), Brenda Weber (Mr. Bingle Christmas decorations) and Nina Loup, Nicole Mulligan, Patti Alphonse and Cathy Wattigny (Evening around town). Margaret Rich and Amy Gross won door prizes. All eyes were on the Dillards Fashion Show runway and its 88 looks, divided into seven scenes (a Christmas shout-out to sparkly suits) and the finale. Tennis assignments

To celebrate the holiday and its 146th anniversary, the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club threw a celebration that began with an hour-long reception for presidents hosted by the board chairman. Christmas tea

Brunch out!

The Patio Planters held their annual holiday brunch in the Galatoires balcony room, with poinsettias decorating the tables. Mimosas were one of the drinks that complemented the three-course brunch, which ended with caramel cup custard.

The moment of choice was the awarding of the organization’s prestigious Daisy Todd award Sandra Dartus, Treasurer and Coordinator of Patio Planters Caroling in Jackson Square and a member known for her volunteer spirit. Reputation!

In the spirit of the season, Patio Planters, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and beautifying the French Quarter, passed the hat around among the 128 brunch guests. They raised $871 for the Quarters homeless program.
