#MUBB beat Seton Hall 83-69

MILWAUKEE –Under Bear Ighodaro third double-double of the season Marquette beat Seton Hall 83-69 Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum.

Ighodaro had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (10-4, 2-1 BIG EAST), along with four assists and three blocks in 30 minutes. MU shot 54.1 percent from the floor (33-of-61), including a 58.6 percent mark in the second half.

Dre Davis scored a season-high 15 points to lead the Pirates (7-7, 0-3 BIG EAST).

PLEASE NOTE:

• The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with Seton Hall 22-13, with all but one of those meetings occurring since MU joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005-06.
• Marquette swept the home-and-home series in the 2021-22 season, snapping the Pirates’ six-game hitting streak. MU has now won three consecutive series.
• Tyler Kolek, the BIG EAST’s leader in assists, nearly matched his season average (7.5) with seven assists in the first half. He didn’t play in nearly 18 minutes of the first half.
• Kolek posted his third career game with at least eight assists and no wins. He had eight assists and no turnovers in the BIG EAST opener against Creighton on the 16th. December, and had 10 assists without an error in the 2022 NCAA first round against eventual national runner-up North Carolina.
• The Golden Eagles and Pirates traded double-digit runs in the first half. MU went up 16-5 on a 12-0 run before SHU rallied on an 11-0 run to pull even at 16. MU also used an 18-4 run, which was the upper limit Olivier-Maxence Prosper dunk at the 3:39 mark of the first half to lead by 14, 34-20.
• Second year student David Joplin hit a 3-pointer from the left wing as time expired in the first half.
• Kam Jones has scored in double figures in all but two of MU’s 14 games this season. He finished the night with 14 points.
• Ighodaro posted his fifth game this season with at least three blocks.
• Ighodaro’s double-double was also the fourth of his career. His four assists are a game high where he has recorded a double-double.
• Freshman Sean Jones hit a career-high three 3-pointers in the second half. His nine points are his most since scoring a career-high 11 against Georgia Tech on the 23rd. November.
• MU’s reserves defeated their counterparts from SHU 28-17. The Pirates entered the contest leading the BIG EAST with 26.2 bench points per game.
• Marquette’s 83 points are the second most points allowed by SHU this season. The Pirates fell 91-65 to then-No. 9 at Kansas on Dec. 1 and 83-67 at Iowa on Nov. 16.
• SHU entered the game second in the BIG EAST allowing just 62.4 points per game. The Pirates also ranked 20th in the nation in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency.
• MU led by as many as 19 points in the second half.
