Welcome to the weekly fantasy football strength schedule or fantasy football matchup ranking column. Today’s word is APA, which might make you say, FUCK! but it really is Custom points allowed. Essentially, it’s a true measure of schedule strength, as it divides the matchups based on the strength of the opponent they face each week (locally).
The difference in defense against an elite player versus basement talent skews the fantasy points allowed to the team. APA adjusts for previous opponents and gives us the expected fantasy points to help us find the best and worst matchups. This is the truer and more accurate strength of the schedule.
Quick Points for Newbies or General Summary:
- APA is my calculation that includes statistics, metrics and matching situations opponent.
- These become stronger and more predictive as the season progresses.
- Rankings are by best matchup (1 is best) and the most adjusted points are allowed for the most concerning matchup.
- Use these tough calls when players are close to kickoff/sit picks.
- Makes *No* means you set the pin with a hard APA to pilot a good match.
- The TEAM is the one with the match. OPP is the team they face +/- is the difference from the location average.
- No DST because it varies wildly and lacks predictive value (one touch of DST skews the scoring too much).
- This is also a good tool DFS sleepers, players to avoid, etc.
WARNING
This is a statistics table post, so comments are not tracked but still they will be in all my other songs every week (exemptions, rankings, etc.) so drop your questions in there and I’ll get ’em!
