MVC play begins with the Aces against SIU on Thursday night

EVANSVILLE – After 11 days of competition, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team jumps into Missouri Valley Conference action against Southern Illinois on Thursday night at 6:00 pm at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

After the postponement against UT Martin due to inclement weather, Evansville will have an 11-day break between contests, matching the 11-day break the Aces experienced a season ago when their matchup with Chicago State was canceled due to COVID.

Evansville and Southern Illinois renew the conference rivalry for the 67th time on Thursday, with the Salukis holding a 38-28 advantage in the all-time series. The Salukis arrive having won the last 10 meetings between the two sides and 13 of the last 15. in the series. UE and SIU met twice last season, with the Salukis winning both meetings by nearly the same margin; 75-62 at Evansville and 80-66 at Carbondale.

Coming into conference play, SIU is 3-6 overall. Most recently, they fell on the road at Saint Louis, 82-54, on Dec. 21. Leading the way for the Salukis is a double-digit scorer in Ashley. Jones (15 points per game) and Promise Taylor (11 points). By comparison, the Aces have four players averaging 9.9 points or more, with Abby Feit, Myia Clark and A’Niah Griffin all averaging over 11 points per contest and Barbora Tomancova just a tenth of a point per game. the double average is 9.9 pages.

With a win over SEMO on Dec. 18, Evansville has continued its success in non-conference play this season. The Aces secured the record for wins in non-conference games for the third straight season with a victory against the Redhawks, tying the program record for most consecutive seasons in wins in non-conference games, most recently in 2006-07. , 2007-08 and 2008-09.
