Dec 30 (Reuters) – Former Netherlands international Marc Overmars has been hospitalized after suffering a “mild stroke”, Belgian club Royal Antwerp said on Friday.
The 49-year-old man has been the director of football in Antwerp’s top division since March.
– RAFC’s director of football affairs, Marc Overmars, fell ill last night and was taken to the hospital due to a mild stroke, the club’s press release said.
“Marc is doing well in the meantime, but he needs to take it easy. Marc and his family are focused on his recovery and do not wish to comment further.”
A former Arsenal and Barcelona winger, Overmars played for Ajax Amsterdam between 1992 and 1997 and became the Dutch club’s director of football in 2012.
He resigned from his job at Ajax in February after admitting “inappropriate” behavior after sending inappropriate messages to several female colleagues.
