Kazakhstan athletes made impressive records, will be recognized for achievements in 2022

ASTANA Kazakhstani athletes have demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship, strength of spirit, tenacity and extreme self-discipline this year and have received numerous prestigious awards that enhance the country’s standing on the international stage.

Here are some of the brightest achievements of the current year.

Chess

In April, Bibisara Assaubayeva received a Guinness Book of Records certificate for being the youngest athlete to win. the Women’s Blitz Championship. The tournament was organized as part of the 2021 World Rapid & Blitz Championship and gathered more than 200 chess players from around 50 countries from the 25th to the 30th. December in Warsaw. Later in August, Assaubajeva was awarded as the best chess player in Asia in 2021 title By the International Chess Federation FIDE.

Another talented chess player Dinara Saduakassova succeeded and placed second in the Women’s Rapid category recently at the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2022, which began in Almaty on 25-30 december Assaubajeva, on the other hand, won the Women’s Blitz Championship of the same tournament for the second time in a row.

Among the national male chess players, Nogerbek Kazybek won quick chess gold in the open under-18 category at the Cadet & Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess World Championship 2022, which started on April 30 and continues on May 4 in Rhodes.

Tennis

The year 2022 was also lucky for tennis players. Elena Rybakina, 23, made world tennis history when she became the first player from Kazakhstan won the Wimbledon women’s singles final and the youngest champion since 2011. He defeated the Tunisian Ons Jabeur in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Earlier in February in Kazakhstan No. 1 Alexander Bublik won the ATP-250 class tournament in Montpellier, France. He won the world’s third-ranked Alexander Zverev 6:4, 6:3.

From a younger perspective, athlete Alan Kurmangaliyev, 15, became the first table tennis player from Kazakhstan to win bronze at the 26th Asian Youth and Cadet Table Tennis Championships in Vientiane from September 1 to 6.

Boxing

Kazakhstan boxing legend Gennadi Golovkin, known by his nickname GGG, defeated Ryota Murata on April 9 to claim the world welterweight title (WBA Super and IBO versions) in Saitama, Japan. In the ninth round, the Kazakh boxer defeated his opponent by technical knockout.

Athletics

This year brought great success to Kazakhstan in athletics. Thus, Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto, 26, won the country for the first time gold medal in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase on July 20 at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Kenyan-born Jeruto finished first with a time of 8 minutes, 53.02 seconds, which is the third fastest time in history.

Earlier in March, Kazakh track and field athlete Nadezhda Dubovitskaya, 24, won the country’s first high jump title in 10 years. bronze medal at 1.98m at the 18th World Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade22.

Other disciplines

Kazakhstan’s speedcubes solved the Rubiks cube the fastest on August 14, 2022 in the Rubiks WCA Asian Championship, placing first. first from 13 countries. The winners of the main event 3x3x3 and the Cup of Nations received a special cup in the shape of the Baiterek monument, each side of which represents the six colors of the Rubik’s cube. Inside the Baiterek is a cube with the flags of all Asian countries. All winners also received exclusive Rubiks WCA Asian Championship 2022 medals and cash certificates.

In the summer of 2022, the national shooting team of Kazakhstan won 11 medals including five gold, four silver and two bronze in trap at the 10th Asian Shotgun Championships in Almaty. The participants competed in two age categories: adult athletes (men and women) and juniors (boys and girls under 21). More than 300 athletes from 16 countries participated in the championship.

At the Asian Road Cycling Championships held on 25-30 March in Dushanbe, Kazakhstan cyclists won 20 medals, including seven gold. On the first day of the competition, Jevgeny Gidich, Yuri Natarov, Igor Zhang and Evgeny Fedorov became the strongest in the team competition. The latter did a kind of golden double in Dushanbe, repeating his feat. Kazakh athlete Igor Chzhan won the men’s group competition on March 29. Among women, Rinata Sultanova won the Asian championship in the test.

Kazakhstan biathlete Alexander Gerlitz, 33, won bronze In the 10 km race at the 2022 Beijing Paralympics on March 8. Gerlitz earned the first and only medal for Kazakhstan, which finished 17th in the full medal table. Gerlitz was awarded $75,000 in prize money by the National Paralympic Committee.

In 2015–2017, he was Kazakhstan’s undisputed champion in cross-country skiing among Paralympic athletes. As Kazakhstan’s sports champion, he finished fourth in cross-country skiing at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics.
