Aussie Tennis’ new love match revealed: Stars Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis are an item

Australia haven’t exactly set the world on fire in the United Cup, but teammates Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis have given fans something to cheer about with the news that they are the latest stars to find romance on tour.

Inglis was seen cheering on his partner as he came from behind to beat Dan Evans in straight sets during the Aussie’s 3-2 loss to Great Britain last Friday and will do the same when he faces the Open on January 16.

The pair remain tight-lipped about their relationship and refuse to post pictures of each other on their social media accounts – but rumors of the pair being romantically linked have persisted for months.

While Kubler’s sensational 6-3 7-6 (7-3) defeat of the highly-fancied world No.27 was easily the highlight of the Aussie’s United Cup opener, Inglis had a much tougher time.

She, Alex de Minaur and Zoe Hives were all beaten after leading the tournament at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena.

De Minaur was promoted to Thursday’s top men’s match after Nick Kyrgios withdrew with an ankle injury, and Inglis stepped in just hours before Friday’s match when Ajla Tomljanovic went down with a knee injury.

Inglis (pictured) is ranked 180 in the world and needs to win in qualifying to compete at the Australian Open later this month.

He was a last-minute call-up for the Aussie United Cup after Ajla Tomljanovic was injured.

Replacing the world No. 33 was a tough ask for No. 180 Inglis, who had not expected to make the tournament at all and suffered a stomach bug as recently as last Wednesday.

Inglis needed to defeat world number 98 Harriet Dart on Friday night to give Australia hope of salvaging a tie, but dropped the first set after errors began to creep into her game, eventually going down 6-4 6-4.

He will battle through the qualifiers for a spot at the Australian Open, while Kubler will look to improve on his first-round defeats in men’s singles in 2018 and 2019.

Kubler (pictured celebrating with Australian United Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt) had a stellar 2022 and will look to maintain his good form at the grand slam in Melbourne.

He had a stellar 2022 campaign, reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon and recording his best win to date when he defeated world number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in July.

Kubler’s rise comes despite a shocking injury battle earlier in his career that saw him undergo six surgeries on an injured knee at age 24.

At one point, he was down to his last $75, despite being ranked No. 1 in the junior world, and was only able to play on clay courts from 2012 to 2015 to avoid hurting his knee further.
