Pro Football HOF postpones announcement of 2023 Modern-Era Player of the Year finalists in honor of Damar Hamlin

Pro Football Hall of Fame announcement Finalist for Modern-Era Player in Hall’s Class of 2023 Ison the table “out of respect for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.” The announcement of the finalists was originally scheduled to air on NFL Network on Tuesday night at 8 PM ET. On Monday night during the Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game, Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field.

Pro Football Hall of Fame announcement said“The decision to delay the program by at least 24 hours was made after discussions involving officials with the Hall of Fame, the NFL and the NFL Network.”

The statement went on to announce a tentative schedule of Wednesday at 8 PM ET on the same network.

“The organizations will reassess the situation on Wednesday and decide if the timing is right to continue the announcement,” the statement said.

After the hit in the first quarter, Hamlin stood up and immediately fell back onto his back. He was then assisted by medical personnel who administered CPR and oxygen. Bills said after the security collapse, medical personnel were able to restore his heart. The players were clearly emotional as they gathered around Hamlin and hugged each other.

Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is listed in sedated and critical condition.

As Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance, coaches from each side pulled their players back into the locker room and the game was suspended and then postponed. The NFL announced on Tuesday that the game will not be resumed this week.
