Emma Raducanu left the court in tears after withdrawing from the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic with an ankle injury just 11 days before the start of the Australian Open.
The British number one was competing against Viktoria Kuzmova and was 6-0, 5-7 when she appeared to turn her ankle.
The 20-year-old tried to continue but was forced to withdraw just one point later, burst into tears on the court and quickly exited.
Raducanu ended his 2022 season in October with a wrist injury and said earlier this week that his goals for 2023 were to “stay injury free” and play “fearless” tennis.
This new injury will cause concern for the former US Open champion when the Australian Open starts in Melbourne on January 16.
