Cricket-‘I’m not going anywhere’, Smith plays down retirement talk | Mighty 790 KFGO

SYDNEY (Reuters) Australia batsman Steve Smith played down talk of retirement on Friday after suggesting it was far from certain he would still be playing Test cricket next season.

The 33-year-old former captain scored his 30th Test century on the second day of the third Test against South Africa on Thursday, moving above Donald Bradman on the Australian century list.

Smith admitted his comments at a press conference after playing dates were deliberately kept secret and said he had no immediate plans to hang up his bat.

I’m not going anywhere, I’m happy with where everything is,” Smith told Fox Sports before the start of the third day of the final Test.

We have a few good trips coming up. I’m excited and I’m still trying to improve.

So while I’m hungry and eager to try and improve and especially help some of the younger batters, while I’m doing all of this, I’m enjoying myself and I have no plans to retire.
