Good news for Matt Renshaw this morning – he has returned a negative RAT and has been cleared to return to the Australian dressing room.

He has spent the first three days – including the entire washed-out day three – in his own dressing room downstairs, away from the rest of the side.

He was caught on camera several times on Friday standing in the weather under an umbrella to get some fresh air and talk to people.

He tested positive Wednesday morning, just hours before the game was scheduled to begin. The Queenslander told Fox Cricket he “gets the sniffles every time he goes south of the Queensland border” and initially asked for a hay fever tablet.

As a precaution, the team doctor ordered him to take a RAT test, which returned a positive reading.

Then she packed her bag and left the dressing room. Then he thought he was going to be kicked out.

“It was a strange two days before I hit … I didn’t spend time with anyone, I was sitting alone in my dressing room,” he said.

“It was an interesting story to tell the grandkids.”

Renshaw passed the time by doing crosswords, sudoku and playing Patience, a card game also known as Solitaire.

After the toss was completed and he learned Australia were batting, Renshaw said he rearranged his room several times.

“When I first got there I just threw everything – I was pretty low at that point. I thought I couldn’t do anything,” he said.

“Then when I found out we were batting and I was hitting a six, I completely organized my dressing room, got everything I needed – I did it about five times.

“I changed all the grips on my bat, arranged all the gloves, arranged my cricket bag and then just sat there.

“I’m not the best at my best by myself and then when I had Test match nerves in that room it was quite difficult.”
