Army hockey player Eric Huss suffered a serious injury from an unintentional skate to the neck in a game against Sacred Heart Thursday.
Huss took a skate on his neck in the second period Army lost 5-0According to the Associated Press.

Coach Rachel Leahy jumped into action, stemming Huss’s bleeding, and Army hockey coach Brian Riley praised her for her quick action.

“A terrible tragedy was averted tonight thanks to the quick actions of our coaches and the medical staff at the arena tonight,” Riley wrote on Twitter Thursday night. “Grateful that our players are doing well because of them.”

The Army hockey team posted an update on Twitter Friday morning following Huss’ successful surgery.

“Eric Huss injured his neck last night from an unintentional skate. He was transported after a key response from our coach Rachel Leahy,” the post says.
“Eric had successful surgery to repair a severe neck wound and returns to West Point today. Warrior.”
Huss is a junior from Dallas, Texas and played for the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League for two seasons.
