BCB Chairman Hilbert Foster

Berbice Cricket Board chairman Hilbert Foster is urging youngsters to take up the challenge to take up leadership roles in Berbice cricket. In a recent interview with this publication, Foster revealed that his term is set to end in December 2023 and he has no immediate plans to continue as BCB chief.
“I had tendered my resignation in July out of sheer frustration, it was rejected by the clubs and managers. My term ends on 31 December 2023, (and) I have no immediate plans to continue as this job has become a full-time job,” Foster explained.
The BCB boss reprimanded a few local administrators for taking on duties and not performing necessary roles.
– Let’s keep our fingers crossed that inspiration might be found in 2023. However, Berbice Cricket needs new leadership; There have been too many people in Berbice administration and at club and board level who just take a seat to take it. As it has become the norm throughout the Caribbean, the job is left to the few. I sincerely hope that those people who are not productive find the time to admit it and move on and let younger heads take over. There are many young people in Berbice who want to participate. For people who have been in the system for 40-50 years, it might be time to move on,” the BCB president has said.
As for Foster’s presidency and tenure, he said that when the time comes, he will walk away satisfied with his job.
“If the Berbice club feels that my time is up, I am ready to walk away and I will do so with my head held high. I think (that) in the last five years my administration has achieved what no other cricket administration in Berbice has achieved and we will see what happens in 2023 ”, Foster reveals.
Foster was re-elected as CEO of BCB in July 2022 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the third quarter. This OGM was held at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground and Foster was returned for a second term as President.
The meeting was attended by all members except Young Warriors CC and Mt Sinai CC and was held in a calm and cordial atmosphere which has become the norm in all BCB meetings.
The representatives approved the minutes of the last OGM and expressed their satisfaction that all the announced and promised plans were implemented, including the visits of several legendary former West Indies players, the distribution of equipment across the province and the expansion of the development program of the boards.
Representatives had unanimously rejected Foster’s letter of resignation, which was to take effect on July 31.
