17. Oregon State (10-3) – A big year for the Beavers culminated in a 30-3 drubbing of Florida in the Las Vegas Bowl. Oregon State beat Florida 30-3 with the Gators holding just 219 yards of offense. Oregon State is celebrating its first 10-win season since 2006.
“If you looked back five years ago and said, ‘Hey, you have a 10-win season, you win the Las Vegas Bowl and you beat an SEC team,’ a lot of people would laugh at us,” Oregon State lineman Jack Colletto said. “But in the end we were able to execute and do it. So in five years, who knows where we might be?”
18. Our Lady (9-4) – The Fighting Irish got five touchdowns from Tyler Buchner in a 45-38 win over South Carolina in the Gator Bowl. The Irish finished 2022 with six wins in their last seven games, including top-25 wins over Syracuse, Clemson and the Gamecocks.
19. Troy (12-2) – In a matchup of top 25 teams, Troy of the Sun Belt defeated UTSA of Conference USA in the Cure Bowl, 18-12. Both teams just missed out on a New Year’s Six opportunity, but the Trojans head into 2023 with a 12-win season.
20. Mississippi State (9-4) – The grieving Mississippi State Bulldogs survived the bowl season with a special win against Illinois. After losing Mike Leach on the first play, Mississippi State won with a 27-yard field goal followed by a freak 60-yard punt return. It’s Zach Arnett’s first win as a full-time head coach, 19-10 over the Illini.
