Men’s Basketball Practice 16 triples to down RIT, 97-72

ROCHESTER, NY The Ithaca College men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to four straight games on Tuesday night, January 10, as IC cruised to a 97-72 victory over RIT inside Clark Gymnasium. The Bombers are now 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Liberty League.

IC got off to a hot start, connecting on their first three shots of the game (all 3-pointers) to take a 9-4 lead. Luka Radovich made two of them when Liam Spellman sunk another three ball.

That ended up being the theme of the night for the Bombers as they finished the contest with 16 3-pointers on 30 attempts (53.3%), with a plus-12 advantage over the Tigers from behind the arc. IC went 10-16 in the first half and finished the opening 20 minutes with 51 points and scored six more in the second half to cap a season-high 97-point outburst. The Bombers also scored 21 points off turnovers and got 42 off the bench.

Of the 14 players who played on Tuesday night, 13 scored at least one point. Radovich led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds while shooting 6-11 overall and 5-8 from long range. Logan Wendell added 12 points when George Sikoryak III and Skylar By the way each yielded 11 points. Sikoryak also dished out six assists.

Triston Wennersten also reached double figures with 10 points and six rebounds in just 13 minutes of action. Zach Warech went 3-for-4 from 3-point range to finish his night with nine points, while Spellman and Andrew Skilled six points each. Noah Downing, Jack Stern and Gavin Schauder all scored four points. Cole Wisink and Bryce Bleibtrey formed the last three points of the IC.

After a quick burst by the Bombers, RIT battled back to tie the game 9-9 at 17:24 and then took an 11-10 lead just 30 seconds later. After Warech’s 3-pointer on the next possession made it 13-11, the Bombers never relinquished the lead the rest of the contest.

RIT tied things up again at 15-15, but Sinon hit a transition three-pointer to start a 12-2 run over the next 1:06 to establish its first double-digit lead of the game at 27-17. The Tigers pulled within five points, 29-24, at the 7:24 mark, but the Bombers outscored RIT 22-13 in the second half to take a 14-point lead into halftime, 51-37.

It was a similar start to the second half for Ithaca as Wendell and Radovich hit 3-pointers in the opening 1:21 to extend IC’s lead to 22 points at 59-37. The lead grew to 27 points with 16:56 left on Sikoryak’s 3-pointer, the Bombers’ biggest lead of the night, until Wennersten scored on a layup with 3:45 left to make it 30 at 94. 64.

The Bombers are at home this weekend against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Friday’s game against St. Lawrence starts at 7:30 p.m., while Clarkson tips off at 4 p.m.
