The Eagles’ comeback attempt fails for Syracuse

CHESTNUT HILL, Mess.– Boston College suffered an 83-73 loss Thursday night to Syracuse at the Conte Forum.

BC is 13-6 and 3-3 in the ACC, while the Orange are now 13-4 and 4-2 in the conference.

JoJo Lacey led the offense with a team-high 19 points while making five of his six shots from 3-point land. The youth guard led four players in double figures.

Andrea Daley 15 points and five rebounds. Taina Mair led the game with eight assists and totaled three assists. Dontavia Wagoner recorded his third straight double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Despite struggling most of the game, the Eagles cut a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to just three midway through the fourth. The Eagles went on a 13-3 run to trail 63-50, swinging the momentum in BC’s favor. Lacey, Waggoner and Mair scored 12 points during a surge in which BC shot 6-of-7.

Cuse led by one possession as both teams traded baskets. However, the Orange kept the hosts at bay by scoring the next six points. Syracuse never less than six points in the final minute to win.

It was a tight affair for the first 14 minutes of the game until the ‘Cuse extended their two-point lead to 12. The Eagles managed to cut the lead to three after scoring the final nine points of the first half.

Syracuse responded with an 8-0 run coming out of the break to take a commanding lead. The Eagles trailed by eight before making their final comeback attempt later in the contest.

Along with 22 turnovers that led to 28 points for Syracuse, BC struggled from the floor, shooting 40.6 percent from the field. The Orange shot 48 percent from the field and 8-of-16 from deep.

BC aims to win Sunday against Virginia in Charlottesville at noon.
