Chapman broke a school record on the first day of the Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, VA – The NC State track and field program recently traveled to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational, their second event of the season. The Wolfpack saw several athletes achieve personal bests and watched the seniors Timara Chapman set a school record in the women’s 500m.

SPRINTS

In the women’s 500m final Timara Chapman broke the school record with a time of 1:15:58. The Wolfpack senior’s performance earned him second place overall. Right behind Chapman was the NC State junior Caroline Lewis, who set a personal best in the 500 meters for the second year in a row at the Virginia Tech Invitational. His time of 1:16:85 is now third all-time in NC State history.

Ally Henson got the Wolfpack off to a hot start on the day, topping the women’s 60m hurdles in 8.61. After reaching the final, he matched his original time and recorded a final time of 8.54 to take fourth place. He is now tied for the sixth-fastest time in Wolfpack history with his teammate Mickey Covington.

JUMP

Wolfpack senior Jirah Sidberry represented the Pack in the women’s triple jump finals, placing first with a distance of 12.71m (41’8.5″). This now gives her the fifth best time in school history.

The Wolfpack also had veteran talent in the men’s triple jump as seniors Jamar Davis placed third overall with a jump of 15.25m (50’2.5″).

THROWS

NC State freshman in the men’s shot put Nathan Lau placed eighth with a best distance of 16.16m (53’0.25″).

The Wolfpack had two athletes set personal bests and finish in the top 10 in the women’s shot put finals. Makala Wright placed third with a throw of 19.05m (62’6.0″). Mahkayla Hart placed ninth and recorded a throw of 17.15 meters (56’3.25″).

NEXT: The Wolfpack will be in action tomorrow for the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
