Muscat: Former champions and passionate paddlers have all descended on the Sultanate of Oman in large numbers as the 2023 World Veterans Table Tennis Championships kicks off at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Center (OCEC) on Sunday.
The week-long event, which ends on January 21, will be inaugurated by His Highness Sayyid Fahar bin Fatik Al Said in the presence of ITTF President Petra Sorling, Asian Table Tennis Federation President Khalil Al Muhannadi, the Arabian and Qatari TT Associations and other dignitaries.
A short ceremony precedes Monday’s opening ceremony. As many as 1,600 participants from 69 countries have arrived in Muscat in recent days.
The Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in collaboration with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has made great efforts to ensure the success of the event, which will be held in the Sultanate. My first time.
Participating paddlers started their warm-up at the venue on Saturday and will continue on Sunday.
Matches are played daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There are 11 age groups, of which the youngest age group starts at 40 years old and over 90 years old. A total of 44 world championships are to be won at the World Championships.
OCEC has three exhibition halls that can accommodate 130 tables for the event.
Up to 100 judges act as referees, including referees from the Sultanate of Oman.
