The impressive depth of young talent in regional WA was on display during the 2022-23 Alcohol. The Think Again Junior Country Week tournament that ended last week.
Thirty-nine teams from 16 junior associations took part in the decades-long competition, battling it out in warm conditions across Perth to earn bragging rights over their national counterparts.
Albany Junior Cricket Association won the coveted 16 A Section title, ousting Bunbury by eight wickets in the Grand Final at the WACA Ground.
Wellington, on the other hand, were crowned champions of the 14 A Section after going through the entire tournament undefeated.
WA Cricket Wheatbelt Cricket Manager Melinda Williams declared the annual tournament a success and thanked the volunteers who made it possible.
“There was some great cricket in every section and all the players represented their associations with pride,” Williams said.
– We greatly appreciate the volunteers who participate in these competitions, including coaches, scorers, team managers and many others. Without parents and families supporting the Junior Country Week teams, this week would not go ahead.
“The clubs and venues that hosted us did an amazing job opening their doors to the country associations and we are very grateful for their hospitality.
– Sincere thanks also go to our sponsors Alkohol. Think again, Country Cricket Board and all junior organizations involved.”
