Men’s Hockey: Atherton, Johnson Take Home NEHC Weekly Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced the winners of its weekly awards from the 9th to the 15th. on a Monday afternoon in January, which included two players from Norwich University’s men’s hockey team.

Senior goalkeeper Drenne Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) took home his second straight goalie of the week. In the Cadets’ two games this week, against UMass Boston and Johnson & Wales, Atherton was held up and didn’t allow a goal in either game until 5:41 p.m. of Saturday’s third period.

Earning Rookie of the Week was forward Johnny Johnson (Napierville, Ill.). Johnson had a career day on Saturday against Johnson & Wales with a goal and three assists. That performance tied Johnson for the team lead with 14 points and added to his team lead in power play goals with five.

The Cadets maintain their hold on first place in the NEHC with a 13-3-1 record, 9-1-1 in the conference. Norwich looks to continue its streak when it hosts Middlebury on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
