Minnesota Hockey Fights Cancer Games

The boys and girls hit the ice tonight at the Duluth Heritage Center for the Minnesota Hockey Fights Cancer Games. The community support was in full effect as people came out to watch the teams play five games between the two fields. There was a chuck-a-puck, raffles, auction items and other cancer fighting.

We were at a board meeting for the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association and I immediately thought, wow, what a great thing. What a great event. I called my friend Brian LeFlore, who coaches the Hermantown Peewee Double-A team, and asked him if he would like to turn our game into Minnesota’s hockey fight against cancer, and he said yes, says David Mclean, Duluth East Peewee AA coach. Cancer is a disease that affects so many people. It’s really special to look at the ways the community can help support through a sport like hockey.

We came together to support our community and to support our individual members in our associations who have fought cancer, who have lost people to cancer or are currently fighting cancer to show them support and that hockey supports our community, Mclean concludes.
