Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday ordered the Men’s National Team Manager to submit a report on the side’s massive 317-run loss to India in the third and final ODI on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. “Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed the National Team Manager to submit a report related to Sri Lanka’s heavy defeat against India in the third ODI played on January 15, 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram,” a team statement said. the governing body of sports in the country.

“The report must include the views of the captain, head coach and selection panel, as well as the team manager on the loss,” the release added.

SLC has asked the team leader to submit the report within 5 days.

The report will allow Sri Lanka Cricket to look at and understand the background behind the team’s dismal performance in the last ODI, which they lost by 317 runs after going 73 to win in 22 overs.

India won the series 3-0. They have also achieved the highest win in terms of runs in the history of ODI cricket and are the first team ever to register a win by at least 300 runs.

Electing to bat first, India got off to a great start as skipper Rohit Sharma (42) opened a 95-run stand with Shubman Gill. Gill later partnered Virat Kohli to stitch a 131-run second-wicket stand and brought up his second ODI ton before being dismissed for 116 off 97 balls. Virat took the Lankan bowlers into the attack by smashing an unbeaten 166 off 110 balls which consisted of 12 fours and eight sixes.

For SL, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara picked up two wickets each and Chamika Karunaratne one scalp.

Chasing 391, Sri Lanka could not fight back and a power spell from Mohammed Siraj (4/32) dashed any hopes of redemption, leaving Lanka 39/6. The visitors were dismissed for just 73 and lost the match by 317 runs.

Siraj’s spell of 4/32 proved lethal for Lanka. Kuldeep Yadav (2/16) and Mohammed Shami (2/20) also scored. Only three Lankan batsman Nuwanidu Fernando (19), skipper Dasun Shanaka (11) and Kasun Rajitha (13*) hit double figures.

Virat Kohli won the ‘Man of the Match’ award for winning the match and also the ‘Man of the Series’ award for scoring 283 runs in the series which included two centuries.
