Well. 14 USC Women’s Tennis Set for Home Opener

The No. 14 USC women’s tennis team opens the 2023 dual meet season with a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount and CSUN on Thursday, Jan. 19 at Marks Stadium. Matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. (LMU) and 3 p.m. (CSUN). On Saturday, the Trojans welcome San Diego (12 p.m.) and San Diego State (4 p.m.).

INVESTMENTS

The Women of Troy enter the spring season ranked No. 14 in the nation (ITA Coaches Poll, Jan. 18). USC has five Trojans in national singles play with freshmen Madison winsleading USCat No. 2 after going 10-1 in the fall. Trojan redshirt sohpmore Snowlocked No. 17 ranking while senior Eryn Cayetanosecured 24th place. Freshman Emma Charney checking in at 83 when he was younger Naomi Cheongsits at number 96.

The Women of Troy also boasts the ranked doubles pair of Maddy Sieg and Eryn Cayetno, who are ranked No. 20.

LAST SEASON

In 2022, the Women of Troy posted an 18-12 record and went 7-3 in Pac-12 Conference play. USC, which remained ranked in the top 25 nationally all season, opened the 2022 season with a 5-0 start and secured a trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the first time since 2015. Later in the season, the Women of Troy would be selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, defeating San Diego State in Malibu, California before falling to No. 8 Pepperdine in the second round. Junior Eryn Cayetano and Salma Ewing both turned in stellar seasons, earning a berth in the NCAA singles tournament and earning All-America singles honors. Cayetano, who was named a Honda Sport Award finalist, reached the NCAA singles quarterfinals, while Ewing was eliminated in the round of 16 (she was later named the ITA Southwest Region Senior of the Year). The Trojans ended the season. 20th in the country, four singles players and three doubles pairs nationally.

SOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT

LMU (unranked) opens its dual season against the Trojans on the 21st^Stall-time meeting between the schools (USC undefeated 20-0). The Lions currently have no ranked doubles or doubles pairings.

SCOUTING CSUN

The Matadors (unranked) begin their 2023 campaign against the Trojans on Thursday in the third all-time matchup between the two schools (the Women of Troy lead 2-0). CSUN currently has no ranked singles or doubles pairings.

SOUTHING SAN DIEGO

San Diego (unranked) was ranked No. 37 in the final polls last season and just wrapped up action at the Torero Tennis Classic. No. 29 Solymar Colling and No. 41 Kailey Evans play for the Toreros, along with the Kailey Evans/Elizabeth Goldsmith duo of No. 53. San Diego was picked second in the 2023 WCC preseason poll.

SOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE

The Aztecs begin the dual action against USC at 51^Stall-time meeting between the two schools (USC holds a 47-4 advantage). San Diego State has one ranked player at No. 88 in Andjela Skrobonja and theNo. 59 ranked pair Dariya Detkovskaya/Andjela Skrobonja.
