Boston College High hockey coach John Flaherty was placed on leave after an OUI arrest

A Milton man told police his car, a 2017 Lincoln, was hit by a Toyota when he was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Reedsdale Road and Randolph Avenue. The man said the driver of the Toyota, later identified as Flaherty, did not stop after hitting his car, so he followed him and called 911, according to the police report.

Flaherty was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of property damage and a marked lanes violation, according to Norfolk District Attorney’s Office spokesman David Traub.

Flaherty pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday. He was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court Feb. 9 for a preliminary hearing, Traub said.

The Flahertys’ attorney, John J. McGlone III, could not be reached for comment.

BC High spokeswoman Colleen F. Carter said the school was aware of Flaherty’s allegations and that the athletic directors’ message was to the parents of the hockey team.

As for the Varsity Hockey team, we can confirm that Coach Vermette and Coach Collier and Coach OBrien will take over the team in Coach Flahertys absence, Carter said via email. Apart from this, we are not commenting on a private matter at this time.
