Sellers Stars As No. 11 Terps top Badgers, 77-64

MADISON, WI From career night Shyanne Sellers led No. 11 Maryland’s eighth win in nine games as the Terps improved to an impressive 7-1 en route to a 77-64 win over Wisconsin at the Kohl Center on Thursday night. Sellers had a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Sellers went 9-of-12 from the floor, tying a career high in field goals made for Maryland (15-4 overall, 6-2 Big Ten).

The Terps opened up an early 22-6 lead and never trailed for their fourth win of the season.

Diamond Miller added together 19 points in his 11th straight game in double figures. He had 16 of those points in the final 20 minutes, after just three in the first half.

Faith Masonius scored his 500th career point in a game when he finished 11 points.

Brinae Alexander continued his brilliant late finishing 10 points from the bench.

The Terps are a perfect 12-0 all-time against the Badgers.

Wisconsin fell to 6-13 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

“I thought we came out on top and really set the tone, especially with Shy and Faith. They were really willing to help us on both ends of the floor and obviously Shy’s hot hand was fun to see and they didn’t I don’t have an answer for him. Anytime you can hit the road and win in conference play, I’ll take it.”

• Sellers got the Terps off to a hot start, knocking down all four of his first shots in the first 4:38 of action, including three triples, and quickly scored 11 points as the Terps jumped out to a 16-6 lead. The Terps led 28-15 after the first quarter as Sellers had 13 points in the period, including 3-4 from 3-point range.
• In a defensive second quarter, the Terps outscored the Badgers 14-12 to lead 42-27 at halftime. Sellers led all scorers with 15 first half points. The Terps forced Wisconsin into 11 first-half turnovers, leading to a 10-0 advantage in scoring.
• The Terps opened up their biggest lead of the night Mila Reynolds scored inside to put them up 22, 56-34, with 5:21 left in the third period. Maryland led 61-46 after three. Miller scored nine points on the season.
• The Terps still held a comfortable lead in the fourth as Miller added to his total with seven in the quarter.

1000 point upgrade

• Miller moved into 25th all-time in career scoring at Maryland 1,371. She passed 25th-place Stephanie Cross, who scored 1,349 points from 1995-1998.
• Meyers now has 1,207 career points with 947 points in three seasons at Princeton before joining the Terps this season.
• Lavender Briggswho surpassed the 1,000-point mark in Maryland’s game against Notre Dame, is now 1,082 in total. He netted 961 in Florida.
• Brinae Alexanderwho crossed the 1,000-point threshold last game, now has 1,021 career points, with 841 coming at Vanderbilt
• Pinzan is also chasing 1000 points 990 after catching four goals at Wisconsin in his career. He had 916 points at South Florida.
