No. 8 USC men’s tennis doubles with win to open

LOS ANGELES, California. The USC men’s tennis team pulled double duty today at Marks Stadium, completing a perfect day with 7-0 wins over visiting Sacramento State and UC Irvine for the Trojans.

In a doubles match against the Hornets Peter Mack and Lodewijk Weststrate a quick 6-0 win over Maior/Chodur (SAC ST.) to put the Trojans ahead. A doubles point is won on the court with the third ace Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell would beat Patrick Wong/Hayden Rand (SAC ST.) 6-1.

USC took the momentum into singles with a one-point lead and never let up. The Trojans captured all six singles in two sets with a Bruin move Carl Lee (court 6) recorded his first dual match victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hornet Patrick Wong. Soon after that Ryan Colby would defeat Ori Maior (SAC ST.) 6-1, 6-2 on court four to put the Trojans one point away from victory. The match ended with number 38 in the midfield Peter Mack crashed Sac. State’s Mark Keki 6-2, 6-3. The Trojans Samuel Rubell, Lodewijk Weststrate and Wojtek Marek each converted a singles win to secure a 7-0 shutout.

In the afternoon, the Trojans picked up a doubleheader thanks to #12 Dostanic/Frye (6-2) in center field and Colby/Lee (6-2) wins at third. The Trojans swept the Anteaters in singles at No. 12 Stefan Dostanic (6-1, 6-2), Carl Lee (6-0, 6-4) and Wojtek Marek (6-1,6-4) would give USC the three points needed to clinch the matchup. The remaining matches were played Bradley Frye, Ryan Colby and Samuel Rubell every recording single wins and makes the final score 7-0 in favor of the Trojans.

USC’s next competition brings Vanderbilt, Memphis and UCLA to town on Saturday, January 28 for ITA Kickoff Weekend. USC hosts an 11:00 a.m. UCLA vs. Memphis game and takes the field at 2 p.m. in a doubleheader against Vanderbilt. The consolation game will be played on Sunday, January 29 at 11 a.m., while the championship game will begin at 2 p.m.
