India have topped the MRF Tires ICC Men’s ODI Team Ranking after defeating New Zealand in the third and final ODI on Tuesday.

India’s win over New Zealand in Indore completed a clean sweep in the three-match ODI series.

They won the first ODI, a high-scoring thriller in Hyderabad by 12 runs, while their seamers helped them cruise to an eight-wicket victory in Raipur in the second game.

And the third and final win means they have now moved to the top of the Mens ODI Rankings.

A brilliant opening stand of 212 runs between Rohit Sharma (101) and Shubman Gill (112) saw India post a mammoth first innings score of 385/9 in the first innings in Indore.

A late flurry by Hardik Pandya (54) and Shardul Thakur (25) helped lift the total and the pair also played a key role with the ball.

Pandya bowled dangerous opener Finn Allen in just the second chase and Thakur picked up three quick wickets in the middle overs, including two in two balls to effectively end New Zealand’s chances.

Even a magnificent century from Kiwi opener Devon Conway was not enough to prevent India from winning.

England, who had risen to the top spot just three days ago after New Zealand’s loss to India in the second ODI, are now second, with New Zealand slipping to fourth.

Before Tuesday’s game, all three teams had exactly 113 points, and their Total Points were decisive.

But the latest result means that India are now first with 114 points, England are second with 113 points, while Australia move up to third place with 112 points. New Zealand has 111 rating points.

If England manage to win their upcoming ODI series against South Africa 3-0, they will unseat India at the top of the men’s ODI rankings.
