Heide was nominated for the 20th WBCA, so you want to be a coaching class

DURHAM Duke women’s basketball graduate student Mia Heide was named one of 62 individuals selected for the 20th “So You Want To Be A Coach” class, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced Tuesday in partnership with WeCOACH.

Every student-athlete participates in a two-day workshop on the 30th-31st. March during the 2023 WBCA Convention in Dallas.

Heide, a graduate student from Austin, Texas, has seen action in all 19 games and is a key member of the Blue Devils’ rotation off the bench. Heide averages 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.3 minutes.

The “Yes” program increases understanding and application of the skills needed to secure women’s basketball coaching positions, increases understanding and awareness of the competencies needed to succeed in coaching. The program also introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who are passionate and interested in coaching women’s basketball. “So” participants learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, hiring, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and balancing work and life.
