Men’s tennis adds Edward Winter for the 2023 season

MALIBU, California Pepperdine’s men’s tennis program has signed the highest rating Adam Schaechterle era as an Australian Edward Winter joins Waves in autumn 2023.

Winter (Adelaide, Australia) competed in all four junior Grand Slams, holds a career-high ITF junior ranking of 66 and was awarded the Australian Junior Player of the Year for 2022. She has also achieved significant success at professional level, winning her first 25,000 ITF World Tour singles event in Traralgon , in Australia last November and defeated former world No. 6 Gilles Simon in qualifying for the 2022 Australian Open.

The Aussie has won five singles titles in the last two years, but has also shown her skills on the doubles court. She won the junior singles at the ITF J2 in Istres, France and the J3 in Cancun, Mexico before winning her first 15K ITF World Tour doubles event in Champaign, Illinois in September.

The head coach Adam Schaechterle said, “This is an exciting day for our program to announce Eddie’s signing. We recognized Eddie as one of the best competitors in the world in his age group and believe he has the potential to play serious professional tennis. But throughout the recruiting process, we appreciated Eddie and his family’s desire to grow academically and develop as a person during his college experience. a young man with strong values ​​and a rare character, he will impact our program in a lot more than just winning tennis matches.”

Winter said, “Pepperdine had always been on my radar as one of the best colleges in the United States. But after visiting Malibu, my eyes were opened to the community and spirit of Pepperdine. I immediately contacted the Head Coach Adam Schaechterle and assistant coach Tassilo Schmid when they shared common goals and visions to develop my tennis and help me grow as a person.
