USA Cricket’s Nominating and Governance Committee (NGC) is released their final candidates and voter list for the upcoming 2021 electionswhere the voting period is from 6 to 21 February 2023.

Anj Balusu from Atlanta and Punit Patel from New Jersey were named league leaders.

The finalists for individual director are Arjun Gona of Dallas, Anuj Patel of Southern California, Bhargav Patel of the DC area, and Rajesh Uppalapati and Sabu Yunnis of North Carolina’s Research Triangle.

And the only eligible candidate for the position of male player director is incumbent Srinivas Salver of Southern California.

In the same announcement, USA Cricket links Eligibility requirements for 2021 election voters for personal and league director positions. Interestingly, the first criteria listed for eligibility for both directorships is that candidates must have been a member for at least 1 year prior to the election closing date, a requirement that candidates Anj Balusu, Punit Patel and Rajesh Uppalapati do not meet. the List of eligible individual membersis also stated in the notice.

At least one of these candidates has claimed that he was not listed as a current member because a field on the membership application was not filled out and not marked as required.

Notably left out of the list of eligible candidates is Sushil Nadkarni, current director of the board and chairman of the USAC Cricket Committee. Nadkarni, who last represented the USA internationally in 2014, wrote an email to the NGC and the US government protesting several violations of the US Cricket Constitution. Sushil’s rejection of challenging incumbent Srinivas Salvar for the male player’s directorship was exemplified in a letter from one of several rejected candidates. The letter mentioned 21 signatories.

The inclusion of three candidates who are not currently listed as voting members is the latest questionable move by the USA Cricket NGC. Just weeks ago, the NGC recommendation of independent director Patricia Whittaker sparked controversy. The former West Indies Test veteran had served USA Cricket as a selector until 2021.

His appointment as an independent director is contrary to the constitutional requirement that independent directors should not have held elected office, served as an employee, officer or director, or held any administrative position (whether as an administrator, appointee or otherwise). In USA Cricket, the ICC or any national, local or regional governing or governing body established for cricket purposes in the USA within three (3) years of the date of the applicable election.
