MELBOURNE (Reuters) Australia opener Usman Khawaja will join his Test teammates in India later on Thursday after a delay in his visa approval, Cricket Australia said.
Pakistan-born Khawaja, who was named Australia’s Test player of the year this week, was the only member of the squad unable to travel and missed a flight on Wednesday due to a visa delay.
A Cricket Australia spokesperson confirmed on Thursday that Khawajas’ visa had been approved overnight and he was on a morning flight from Melbourne to Bengaluru.
Australia will hold a training camp in Alur, about an hour from Bengaluru, before the four-Test series begins in Nagpur on February 9.
Khawaja posted on social media on Wednesday about the leak.
He spent the night at an airport hotel in Melbourne after being separated from his teammates, local media reported.
Khawaja has previously faced visa issues traveling to India when he tried to enter the country in 2011 for the now-defunct T20 Champions League.
