Known as Football City, Rock Hill broadcasts the most players per capita on the NFL’s WSOC

ROCK HILL, SC – Rock Hill calls itself Football City USA for a reason.

The city of 75,000 says it has had more NFL players per capita than any other city in the United States.

Good morning America host Michael Strahan visited Rock Hill and spoke with South Pointe High School star JZavien Currence about the city’s high school stars who could become tomorrow’s next pro athletes.

“You’re one of the best wide receivers in the country,” Strahan said. Is it a lot of pressure since you’re only a freshman?

No, JZavien said. You can’t let the game outgrow you. I don’t think too much about it.

JZavien, 14, already has several Division 1 offers to play in college.

Strahan asked Jay Currense, JZavien’s father, when did you know he was good?

When he was six, he had his first, I think eight-touchdown season,” Jay said. By the time he was nine, he had 30 touchdowns.

JZavien also played in three games and scored five touchdowns. In the second game, the teenager scored five touchdowns in the first quarter.

We always prepared for him to get this much attention, Jay said.

Big dreams cost some big contracts and successful careers.

But Jibrille Fewell knows what happens when a dream breaks.

Jibrille was one of those phenoms in high school that everyone said would make the NFL.

He played college ball but didn’t make the NFL.

How did it feel to come back here after falling short of the ultimate dream of making it to the NFL? Strahan asked.

It was disheartening, Jibrille said. I felt like a failure and I didn’t know what really happened next, so I kind of went into a dark area.

Jibrille is now a youth soccer coach helping kids learn to bounce back when soccer ends.

He brings in mental health advocates and former players to help kids think beyond the game.

When people realize that soccer is 90% mental and 10% physical, they realize how important the mental health piece is to soccer, Jibrille said.
