Men’s Tennis Drops Spring Opener at Navy, 5-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. The Saint Joseph men’s tennis team opened its spring campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to Navy 5-2 at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN

Navy (5-5) got on the board with a pair of double wins. Inigo Diaz and Nassim Fenjiro beat the Hawks 6-4 in the third flight.

Saint Joseph’s (0-1) tied the game Alejandro Vedra, who secured a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory in the first flight, but the hosts would win four of the next five to claim the match win. Fenjiro won his fifth set match 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in a super tiebreaking.

“Not the best start to the season for us against a very strong Navy team,” head coach Marc Pibernat said. “Our overall performance was good, but there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially in the collegiate competition. A big shout out to Alejandro who won his top player and also to our captain Nassim. won both his singles and doubles.”

The Hawks host Coppin State next Saturday at the Legacy Indoor Tennis Facility.
