Both track teams finished in the top five nationally

SEATTLE – For three consecutive weeks, the Husky track and field teams have made some kind of program history. Two weeks ago, the women achieved an all-time record of No. 2. Last week, the men earned their first ever No. 1 ranking. And today, both teams were simultaneously ranked in the top five of the National Ratings Index for the first time.

The men’s team lost its shot at the No. 1 spot, only falling to No. 2 nationally, while the women’s team moved up ten spots this week to No. 5. Washington is one of three programs in the top five. both the men’s and women’s national rankings, as well as Texas and Arkansas.

The women’s team had several important new marks to move up 10 spots, starting with the Collegiate Record for the distance medley relay, which now leads the NCAA in the most team points. Sophie O’Sullivan, Marlena Pregh, Carly Thomas and Anna Gibson ran 10:46.62 in Boston to break collegiate mark by two seconds.

Thomas and Preigh also improved their national standings in the 800 meters, with Thomas setting a school record and ranking No. 3 in the NCAA this season, and Preigh running the second-fastest time to finish 12th. Another new high of five points came Ida Eikengas he ranked No. 4 in the NCAA this season by breaking the UW pentathlon record with 4,198 points.

In the latest Event Group Rankings, which place teams in different events based on their top four individual averages, the Huskies still own the men’s mile, as UW remains 1-2-3-4 nationally. miles please Joe Washcom, Brian Fay, Nathan Greenand Kieran Lumb.

The women’s team has four sports groups in the top four. The women have the first category in the 800 m series (Carly Thomas, Marlena Pregh, Anna Gibson, Chloe Foerster); first mile team (Gibson, Thomas, Sophie O’Sullivan, Madison Heisterman), No. 4 3,000m Group (O’Sullivan, Gibson, Andrea Markezich, Naomi Smith) and pole vault team no. 3 (Sarah Borton, Nastassja Campbell, Sarah Ferguson, Ashleigh Helms).

The Huskies will host the Husky Classic this coming Friday and Saturday at Dempsey.
