Three Collected Preseason All-ACC Recognition

DURHAM Three Blue Devils received Preseason All-ACC recognition for the 2023 campaign, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Cubby Biscardi earned a spot on the defensive team at the same time Olivia Carner and Maddie Jenner was named to the senior team.

Duke was ranked fourth in the ACC in a poll of the league’s 10 head coaches, also released Tuesday. North Carolina was picked as the preseason favorite to win the conference with a total of 92 points, followed by Boston College (86), Syracuse (85), Duke (65), Notre Dame (64), Virginia (58), Virginia Tech (36), Louisville (27) , Pitt (23) and Clemson (14) to complete the preseason rankings.

As a linebacker, Biscardi helped lead a tough Duke defense all last season. Duke’s scoring defense (11.00 GAA) was 26th nationally and third in the conference, while its 11.30 turnovers per game were sixth nationally. Individually, Biscardi ranked 10th nationally with 2.10 caused turnovers per game and posted a career-high five caused turnovers against Penn. He owns 72 career turnovers, tied for 12th on Duke’s all-time record heading into his senior year.

As a midfielder, Carner made huge strides both offensively and defensively last season and was named to the Tewaaraton Watch List for his efforts. He finished third on the team with 50 points on 31 goals and 19 assists while shooting .484. Defensively, he was second on the team with an impressive 33 turnovers and also grabbed 23 draw controls and 20 groundballs. Against Pittsburgh and Penn, Carner was great for Duke on both ends of the floor. He had a career-high six points (3G, 3A) and a career-high four caused turnovers against Pittsburgh. He followed that performance with three goals against Penn. One of Duke’s most complete players, he recorded three or more points in 11 contests last season.

A hitter and draw specialist, Jenner returned to the circuit in 2022 as the sport’s top draw and was spectacular all spring, striking out 233 draws in 20 games. In Duke’s win at High Point, Jenner had a career-high 21, surpassing his previous best of 19. It’s the most in a single game in Duke history, surpassing her sister Olivia’s 20 in 2019. She helped control the tempo. game by winning the tie and allowing Duke to have possession. He also had 30 points (28G, 2A) last season. In his career, he has collected 604 total draws and is the nation’s NCAA active career leader in draw checks per game (9.29) and total draws (604). He broke the NCAA single-season tackles record last spring (233), Duke’s all-time tackles record and is 42 shy of breaking the NCAA career record.

The 11th-ranked Blue Devils open the season Friday against Navy. The draw will take place at 14:00 at Koskisten Stadium on ACCNX.
