EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – UW-Eau Claire will introduce its new head football coach on Tuesday.
Rob Erickson was introduced as the Blugolds’ new head coach at a noon press conference Tuesday.
Erickson, the 18th head coach in program history, takes over for Wesley Beschorner, who left the Blugolds to take the associate head coach and offensive coordinator position at the University of Sioux Falls, which competes in NCAA Division II. Beschorner, who was hired in 2019, led the Blugolds to an 8-22 overall record while going 3-18 in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
Erickson comes from South Dakota State, where he was the special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He previously coached five seasons at UW-Whitewater from 2015-2019 and 2008-2014 at his alma mater, UW-Platteville. He also coached at Aurora, Ill., from 2005-07 and UW-Stevens Point from 2003-04.
UW-Eau Claire went 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the WIAC last season. The Blugolds last winning season was in 2009 and the program’s last playoff appearance was in 2007, both under Todd Glaser.
The announcement of a new coach comes a day after UW-Whitewater announced it Jace Rindahl would take the direction number one in the Warhawks football program.
